I set up a Delicious account for bookmarking, but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. It says I have things in it, but I haven't been able to retreive them..........techno idiot strikes again........I think this would be a valuable personal and professional tool - it would be very helpful for me since I have to visit several sites for our yearbook, and I have listed sites that I found helpful if I need to search for last minute activities when a teacher I'm subbing for has left no plans! I have earmarked sites at home on my computer under "My Favorites", but I sure can see that a bookmarking site would help me access this stuff anytime, anywhere...you never know when you might need to see what last minute vacations are out there that you can't afford!! :) I didn't like Diigo.
Facebook. I do NOT want to set up an account. All the kids I've talked to use this for their social lives, and that's fine for them. Some use it to find parties, and some admitted that it's a way to find out if alcohol will be available, or if no parents will be on site. I did try to make that a teaching moment, but most of the kids thought I was hopelessly outdated. As someone else said on this blog, sometimes some things are better left for a particular generation, and I think this is one of them. Anything in my social or personal life I will share with those who I want to know it, and preferably through contact with the human voice on a telephone.
I did try to use Smilebox, but I don't think that worked, either, so at this time I can't comment on it, although it would be a fun thing to use to send special occasion greetings to my yearbook staff.
