Teens and Facebook

I was able to pick the brains of my homerooom class today about Facebook. Most of my students actually preferred MySpace to Facebook. The students that preferred Facebook said that it is because the other students haven't figured it out yet (it's newer). I think they may be right. The points that were made about Facebook:

• organized
• professional looking
• "less pedophiles"
• feel safer/easier to block things and make it private
• parent prefers facebook...less virus to the computer. (again, newer???)

They use their myspace and facebook for talking to friends, using it like a pen pal, for family far away, etc. and they use it EVERY day!

They were really excited about the topic....they could have had a debate right then and there! Funny really!

I personally do not know that I would use this site in a classroom....I cannot think of a way to do that. I also do not really see the point of having a Facebook account in the first place. I guess to find friends that I haven't seen in awhile, but that would be about it....
